Ford Sierra & Granada Type 9 Complete Hydraulic Clutch Conversion Kit
Complete hydraulic clutch conversion kit for Ford Sierra and Ford Granada models fitted with the Type 9 gearbox.
This complete kit combines our Wilwood clutch master cylinder conversion, Type 9 concentric hydraulic clutch conversion and hydraulic fitting kit, providing the main components required to convert the clutch operation from the pedal through to the gearbox.
Designed for use with a .625" master cylinder and Pinto-style clutch cover.
This conversion makes the clutch far more pleasant to use, particularly on cars fitted with heavy-duty clutch covers, uprated clutches or paddle clutches.
Fits
- Ford Sierra with Type 9 Gearbox
- Ford Granada with Type 9 Gearbox
Complete Kit Includes
Pedal & Master Cylinder Conversion
- Wilwood .625" clutch master cylinder
- Wilwood fluid reservoir
- Aluminium reservoir mounting bracket
- Heavy-duty pedal rose joint
- Rose joint spacers
- Stainless steel fittings
- Bulkhead mounting bolts
- Nyloc nuts and washers
- Banjo and hydraulic fittings
- Reservoir mounting screws
Type 9 Hydraulic Clutch Conversion
- CNC machined replacement gearbox nose
- High-quality concentric hydraulic clutch slave cylinder / release bearing
- Nose gasket
- Stainless steel mounting bolts
- New front input shaft oil seal
Hydraulic Fitting Kit
- Hydraulic inlet fitting
- Hydraulic outlet fitting
- Fittings to accept -3AN hose
- 1.5 metre stainless steel braided hydraulic hose
This provides the components required to connect the master cylinder through to the concentric slave cylinder.
CNC Machined Gearbox Nose
The conversion replaces the original Type 9 gearbox nose with our purpose-made CNC machined hydraulic version.
The concentric slave cylinder mounts directly to the replacement nose, converting the gearbox to a modern hydraulic release bearing arrangement.
No machining of the gearbox is required.
Simply remove the original nose and replace it with the supplied hydraulic conversion assembly.
Master Cylinder Installation
Installation of the Wilwood master cylinder requires three holes to be drilled in the bulkhead.
We normally mark the holes using a punch and drill using an 8mm drill, although customers have also successfully used a step drill.
The clutch pedal has a suitable mounting position approximately 1 inch down from the pedal pivot for the supplied heavy-duty rose joint.
It is important that the centre line of the master cylinder is positioned at approximately the same height as the pedal rose joint, keeping the push rod as straight as possible.
There should be little or no angle on the master cylinder push rod during operation.
Take your time when positioning the master cylinder before drilling. Measure twice, drill once.
Bulkhead Reinforcement
We strongly recommend bracing or reinforcing the bulkhead when carrying out the master cylinder conversion.
Bulkhead flex can reduce pedal feel and place unnecessary load on the master cylinder mounting area, particularly when using heavy-duty clutch covers.
A properly reinforced mounting point gives a much more solid and consistent clutch operation.
Clutch & Release Bearing Clearance
This conversion is designed for use with a Pinto-style clutch cover.
It is essential that the concentric release bearing position and clearance are checked during installation.
Different clutch manufacturers and clutch combinations can have different installed heights, so clearance must always be physically measured before the gearbox is finally installed.
Spacer Shims
Spacer shims are available separately if additional adjustment is required.
These are particularly useful when using shallower clutch assemblies such as 7.25" competition clutches.
The correct amount of spacing should be determined by measuring your individual clutch and release bearing installation.
Why Convert to Hydraulic?
This is an excellent upgrade for Sierra and Granada Type 9 applications, particularly where an uprated clutch has made the original clutch operation heavy.
Benefits include:
- Smoother clutch operation
- Improved pedal feel
- Easier operation with heavy-duty clutch covers
- Ideal for uprated and paddle clutch applications
- Modern concentric hydraulic release bearing
- Removal of the conventional clutch fork and release mechanism
- CNC machined replacement gearbox nose
- No gearbox machining required
- Complete master cylinder-to-gearbox hydraulic conversion
- 1.5 metre stainless braided hydraulic line included
Important Fitting Information
This is a conversion kit and requires mechanical installation, drilling of the bulkhead and careful measurement of the release bearing position and clutch clearance.
Correct release bearing clearance is essential.
We recommend taking your time during installation and checking all measurements before final assembly.
If you are not confident carrying out the conversion, we recommend having the kit installed by a competent garage or motorsport specialist.
