Ecumaster EMU Black Engine Management Unit ECU
The Ecumaster EMU Black is a powerful standalone engine management unit designed for advanced control of fuel, ignition, boost, drive-by-wire throttle, VVT, auxiliary systems, CAN communication, and motorsport strategies.
Developed as a major evolution of the original EMU platform, the EMU Black features a CNC-machined aluminium enclosure, improved electronics, built-in CAN bus, wideband lambda support for Bosch LSU 4.2 and LSU 4.9 sensors, integrated drive-by-wire control, dual H-Bridge outputs, flexible trigger inputs, and enhanced software.
It is suitable for a wide range of performance, race, rally, drift, track, and engine swap applications where professional standalone ECU control is required.

Dedicated Flex Fuel Input
Separate flex fuel input for ethanol content sensors.

Supports active and passive ignition coils, software selectable.

Enclosure & Construction
The EMU Black uses a bespoke CNC-machined aluminium enclosure designed for high resistance to mechanical damage, good heat conduction, and improved protection in motorsport environments.
The enclosure includes an additional mounting point, a sealed USB connector for PC communication, and a MAP sensor connection tube at the front.
PCB & Electronics
The EMU Black uses a 4-layer PCB with mainly SMD components. The board and components are protected with a special coating to help guard against moisture and vibration.
The unit is assembled on a fully automated production line with optical inspection and is built to IPC-S-815A standards. Carefully selected electronic components allow operation across a wide temperature range from -40°C to +105°C.

Analogue Inputs

Drive-by-Wire Control
The EMU Black can directly control an electronic throttle body using its built-in high-current H-Bridge outputs, so no external DBW module is required.
The drive-by-wire strategy has an improved update rate and configurable PWM frequency from 1000Hz to 8000Hz for precise throttle control. For safety, the DBW strategy runs on two separate processors, with throttle limp mode triggered in the event of malfunction.

Connectors
The EMU Black uses two connectors:
- 24-way grey connector
- 39-way black connector
The grey connector uses the same pin layout as the regular EMU, while the black connector is changed to a 39-way layout. The pin layout is designed to make repinning from a regular EMU connector straightforward.
