Description
Ford Cosworth YB BHP666+ Piper Camshaft ULTIMATE ROAD CAM - 2026 Profile Update
The BHP 666+ is the evolution of our proven 666 inlet cam for the Cosworth YB platform.
Retaining the effective valve events that made the original so successful, the 666+ introduces modernised ramp geometry for:
-
Improved cam follower life
-
Reduced edge loading
-
Better valve control at high RPM
-
Increased stability in high boost applications
-
Smoother valve acceleration control
Manufactured by Piper Cams
The BHP camshaft range is now manufactured by Piper Cams, ensuring:
-
Superior material consistency
-
Precision CNC lobe grinding
-
Repeatable lobe geometry
-
Exceptional quality control
-
Consistent cam-to-cam accuracy
The result is repeatable performance like never before.
Core Specifications
-
Valve Lift: 9.6mm
-
Advertised Duration: 266°
-
Application: Turbo YB specific profile
Proven Cam Combinations
Option 1 - Fast Road / Broad Torque
666+ Inlet & BD8 Exhaust
For the majority of fast-road and strong street builds:
-
BHP 666+ Inlet
-
Standard BD8 Exhaust
Best Tested Baseline Timing:
-
110° Inlet Centreline
-
110° Exhaust Centreline
Why This Works
-
Controlled overlap for turbo efficiency
-
Strong cylinder filling without excessive top-end bias
-
Maintains exhaust velocity for spool
-
Excellent drivability with serious midrange torque
This combination delivers a wide, usable powerband with predictable boost behaviour.
Option 2 - Higher Power / Increased Airflow Builds
666+ Inlet & 666 Exhaust
When airflow increases significantly - larger turbo, increased boost, improved head flow, higher rev limit - the exhaust side can become restrictive.
At higher mass flow levels, the BD8 exhaust can limit blowdown efficiency.
Proven High Power Timing
We have successfully run dual 666 camshafts in 650bhp Cosworth YB engines timed at:
-
108° Inlet Centreline
-
112° Exhaust Centreline
Why 108° / 112° Works
108° Inlet
-
Increases dynamic cylinder pressure
-
Improves midrange torque
-
Enhances spool response
-
Helps trap boosted charge efficiently
112° Exhaust
-
Controls overlap
-
Improves high-RPM blowdown
-
Reduces charge loss under boost
-
Allows better turbine efficiency at high flow
This configuration:
-
Frees up restricted exhaust flow
-
Supports higher peak power
-
Extends clean power further up the rev range
-
Maintains boost stability
Suited To:
-
600–650bhp+ builds
-
Larger turbo applications
-
Higher rev limit engines
-
Track-focused combinations
Valve Train Requirements
The BHP 666+ is designed to run with:
-
Standard YB valve platforms
-
Standard caps
No modification required to platforms or caps.
BHP YB Double Valve Springs - Essential
To control a 9.6mm / 266° profile at elevated RPM, upgraded spring control is mandatory.
We strongly recommend:
BHP YB Double Valve Springs-
Drop-in fit
-
No platform machining
-
No cap changes
-
No selective matching required
-
Stable control without excessive seat pressure
These springs ensure:
-
Proper valve control at high boost
-
Reduced risk of float
-
Long-term durability
-
Confidence at higher RPM
Real-World Development
These cam combinations have been tested in genuine 650bhp Cosworth YB builds, delivering repeatable and stable performance.
The BHP 666+ represents controlled, usable airflow - not marketing numbers.
It is engineered for serious turbocharged performance, built on proven results.
For all builds, all engine clearances including piston-to-valve clearance must be verified during installation to ensure safe operation.
